  Guide to SELLING Your Home
      Legal Fees

Your lawyer will estimate the legal fees and disbursements when your file is opened. Should there be complications with your sale regarding the title, survey, municipal clearances, or with any other aspect of the file they will advise you immediately of any increase in legal fees and disbursements. They will do their best to give you an accurate accounting as quickly as possible. Any further legal fees billed to you as a result of the extra time to your file will be based upon the terms and conditions and hourly rate you agreed to in writing when you retained your lawyer.

When you go to your lawyer's office to sign the documentation prior to the closing, please bring along at least one key to the property. You may wish to leave all keys with them, but if you need to retain the keys, when you leave the house for the final time, would you make certain that all keys are left in the kitchen drawer nearest to the sink or on the kitchen counter. It is a common courtesy to mark each key so that the buyer will know which door it opens. If you have a garage door opener, would you also leave this with the keys.
